In Australia, we often talk about our “dream home” – a big backyard, an open-plan kitchen, a white picket fence. But for many people, having any suitable home feels out of reach.
This Homelessness Week (4–10 August 2025), we’re asking individuals, services, communities and organisations across NSW to join our creative campaign:

From simple sketches to colourful collages or written reflections, we want to know what makes a place truly feel like home – not a dream, but a basic human right.
Everyone! We welcome: individuals of all ages, community groups, schools and students, housing and community housing providers, homelessness service organisations, workplaces, local councils, tenants and homeowners.
Homelessness is rising across NSW. More people than ever are being priced out of suitable homes, with many stuck in unsafe, unstable, or temporary living conditions.
Through this campaign, we’re elevating the voices of people across our communities and calling on governments to act now.
These submissions will be presented to the housing minister for discussion – help us call on the NSW government to do more.
Let’s shift the conversation from property dreams to housing justice. Let’s make decent housing the baseline, not the exception.
This toolkit includes the submission template, instructions, posters and social tiles for you to access.
When you and your team have completed the activity, you can upload a photo or scan of your drawing here for Homelessness NSW to share and discuss.
The 2020 Federal Budget did not include funding for the Commonwealth component of the Equal Remuneration Order beyond June 2021. This equates to a cut to homelessness services of $56.7 million nationally and $7.5 million in NSW. Homelessness NSW supports the Campaign being led by Homelessness Australia to reinstate this funding within the NHHA.
