Aboriginal Sector Hub

Supporting Aboriginal-led approaches, strengthening cultural capability and building a more culturally informed homelessness sector.

Homelessness NSW works with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, Aboriginal workers and the broader homelessness sector to strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Our Aboriginal sector work focuses on building connections across the sector, supporting culturally safe practice, strengthening Aboriginal workforce development and creating opportunities for Aboriginal voices to shape the future of homelessness services.

NSW Redressing Aboriginal Homelessness Accord

The NSW Redressing Aboriginal Homelessness Accord is a shared commitment between services and individuals to reducing the disproportionate experience of homelessness among Aboriginal people, families and communities through stronger, culturally safe and Aboriginal-led responses.

The Accord provides a practical framework for the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) sector to strengthen service practice, partnerships, workforce development and accountability, while supporting Aboriginal self-determination and community control.

How was the Accord developed?

The 2026 Accord builds on the original 2017 NSW Redressing Aboriginal Homelessness Accord and has been developed with the knowledge and experience of the SHS sector.

Between June and October 2026, Nous Group worked with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal SHS workers and providers through an extensive consultation process. The process was supported by the NSW SHS Aboriginal Community of Practice and builds on the consultation that informed the original Accord.

The updated Accord reflects the priorities, experiences and perspectives shared through this process and provides a renewed framework for action across the sector.

Launching the 2026 Accord

The 2026 NSW Redressing Aboriginal Homelessness Accord will be launched on 14 October 2026 in Redfern, bringing the sector together to mark the next stage of this shared commitment to redressing Aboriginal homelessness.

The launch will provide an opportunity to hear more about the Accord, its priorities and what it means for organisations across the SHS sector.

Signing the Accord

Following the launch, organisations across the SHS sector will be invited to become signatories to the Accord.

Practical resources and tools will be made available to support organisations to understand the Accord, consider their commitments and begin the signatory process.

Organisations across the sector will be encouraged to get involved and consider how they can contribute to this shared commitment to redressing Aboriginal homelessness.
