This practice guide and customisable safety, risk and decision-making tools were developed to support SHS providers to assess client safety and risk leading to informed and documented decision making in a consistent, trauma informed and client focused manner.  

Developed by This Insight Partnership in collaboration with the SHS sector, Homelessness NSW and the support of Homes NSW, the Practitioner guide and associated tools form stage 1 of an update to the SHS Case Management Resource Kit. The Practitioner Guide along with the Safety, Risk and Decision-making tools support the implementation of the SHS Access Eviction and Withdrawal of Services Policy , created in response to the NSW Ombudsman’s report “Specialist homelessness services: helping people with high or complex needs”.  

Implementation of the tools in part or total is optional and at the discretion of SHS providers.
