Interested in joining our movement by becoming a Homelessness NSW member?

We’re the largest homelessness peak body in New South Wales, seeking to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

Our members are individuals and organisations that want to see stronger communities where every person has a safe, secure home, as well as the support to keep it.

We fight on behalf of our members to change the system by being a key voice to government. Our members can and have made a difference, with some of our wins including temporary accommodation reforms, securing more government investment in the sector, stronger services, and lifting the voices of those with lived experience. Becoming a member ensures you’ll be heard by those who can influence change.

Member organisations and individuals get to connect and collaborate with others that share their values and mission for a better world. Together, our voices are stronger!

Who can become a Homelessness NSW member?

There are several ways you can become a member with us, depending on whether you’re joining as an individual or on behalf of an organisation.

You can find out which membership option is best for you by exploring the categories below. Our friendly team is also on-hand to assist – please email members@homelessnessnsw.org.au if you have any questions.

Our members support Homelessness NSW’s vision, values and goals and have a passion for ending homelessness and supporting people at risk of homelessness.

Ways to be a Homelessness NSW member

There are five ways you can become a member of Homelessness NSW. No matter what type of membership you hold, or your organisation holds, becoming a member with us will mean you are part of a transformative movement to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in NSW.

 

Homelessness NSW Partner (Full Member)

Being a Homelessness NSW Partner is for:

  • Specialist Homelessness Services funded by the Department of Communities & Justice
  • Not-for-profit organisations that provide services to or advocate on behalf of individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. This might include shelters, Community Housing Providers, transitional housing programs, food programs, and outreach services
  • Community-based organisations, including local community groups, neighbourhood associations, or grassroots organisations that work on homelessness-related initiatives, advocacy, or awareness campaigns.

Membership benefits for Homelessness NSW Partners:

  • One voting right per membership at general meetings and for Board and leadership positions.
  • One nomination right per membership for Board and leadership positions.
  • Option for one individual per organisation to be elected to the Policy Council.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the development of policy and advocacy to reform the homelessness system.
  • Access to Communities of Practice, round tables, policy updates, advisory groups and forums which shape the sector’s approach to ending homelessness in NSW.
  • Monthly Homelessness NSW Newsletter (can be distributed amongst all staff).
  • Monthly Members’ Briefing with CEO (can be attended by all staff).
  • Discounted Homelessness NSW events and conferences (can be attended by all staff).
  • Discounted or free professional development and specialist courses.
  • Access to member-only events and courses (for all staff).
  • Free Client Satisfaction Surveys.
  • Participation in Annual Member Feedback Survey.

Changemaker (Associate Member)

Being a Changemaker is for:

  • Organisations that have a vested interest or are involved in addressing homelessness-related issues but don’t deliver homelessness services.
  • Examples of Changemakers include:
    • Government agencies
    • Research and policy institutes
    • Housing developers and organisations within the property sector
    • Social services and health organisations
    • Educational institutions
    • Corporate and private sector partners
    • Arts and culture organisations
    • Advocacy and activism groups
    • Philanthropic foundations
    • Community volunteers and volunteer networks

Inclusions for Changemakers:

  • A monthly Homelessness NSW Newsletter (can be distributed amongst all staff).
  • Networking opportunities.
  • Opportunities for advocacy, fundraising and volunteering within the sector.
  • Free access to resources, support and information.

Sector Hero (Associate Member)

Sector Heroes are:

  • Individuals who work for a not-for-profit service provider that delivers Specialist Homelessness Services
  • Individuals who work for an organisation that directly provides services to homeless individuals and families, such as shelters, Community Housing Providers, transitional housing programs, soup kitchens, and outreach services
  • Individuals who align with the vision and values of Homelessness NSW
  • Individuals who work for not-for-profit organisations.

Inclusions for Sector Heroes:

How much does it cost to be a Homelessness NSW member?

Memberships at the Homelessness NSW Partner level and Changemaker level are priced in a tiered fashion according to the revenue of the organisation. Sector Heroes and Allies have flat fees, and ACCOs are offered free membership with us.
