Australia is confronted by an increasing housing affordability crisis resulting in tens of thousands of people being stuck on the waiting-list for social housing for extended periods. This project is motivated by a need to better understand the lives and circumstances of – people registered on social housing waiting lists (‘waitees’) while they are waiting for social housing. Over the next five years we will focus on building the capabilities of people and capacity of systems to end homelessness. We recognise the urgency and complexity of this issue and must leverage all available resources and collective efforts. We commit to working closely with homelessness services, communities, businesses, people with lived experience and governments. Through aligned action we aim to achieve a future where homelessness is rare, brief and nonrecurring.
